Establish a circle in one direction… disengage the horse’s hindquarters, walk straight ahead. and establish a circle in the new direction.

“In order to change directions, I had a tough time remembering to turn toward the horse before stepping forward to disengage the hindquarters (Step 5 of Stage One). I also had to constantly remind myself to ask for the disengage using the foot on the same side of my body as the Handy Stick. It got me off balance at first.

“Fancy tends to be lazy, but it didn’t take her long to understand that I didn’t nag at her when she stayed with me. I was surprised at how quickly she picked this up. I know it is because of all the exercises we have done up to this point. There is no way we could have started with this one.”
